How I work
Want to know what my job is and how I approach it? Here’s an overview of my responsibilities, processes and methods.
What I do
Develop a deep understanding of the users and their needs
This involves planning all elements of research and analysing feedback & data to understand the needs, behaviours, and pain points of the target audience.
Define the overall experience strategy based on insights
I define the vision, goals, design principles, and UX activities that will guide the design and development of the product or service.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams
Working closely with other teams, including marketing, product management, CMS specialists, and design, to ensure that the user experience is integrated into all aspects of the process.
Lead and mentor designers and researchers
I am also responsible for managing a cross-functional team and ensuring that they are working towards a cohesive vision for the user experience.
Measure and optimise the experience
I identify metrics and analytics to measure the success of the experience and identify opportunities for improvement as well as planning summative user testing for the validation of design decisions.
My process
Goals
How we’ll know if we’re making progress
Define
Define objectives and measurable key results to guide and track UX work
Benchmark
Benchmark UX by first determining the appropriate metrics and a study methodology
Principles
Focus on UX goals and principles to drive analytics measurement plans, rather than tracking superficial metrics
How I manage my teams
Collaborative
Many hands make light work. This is my approach to designing experiences.
I like to bring people together to help solve problems and identify opportunities for improvement.
Working in this way stops individual bias, speeds up efforts and keeps everyone focussed.
Reflective
I ensure that my teams have the opportunity to reflect on previous work in a safe and open and environment.
Through these positive reflection sessions, we can take the time to praise each other on what’s gone well, look at what’s not gone well and come up with ideas to improve work in the future and celebrate our wins.
Experimental
I like to try new ways of doing things. In UX we experiment with solutions all the time. I believe we should also do this with our ways of working.
Seeking feedback and looking for opportunities to evolve our processes, so we can create the best products for our users.
